Vietnam's Biobanking Market Could Exceed US$700 Million by 2030

Vietnam’s biobanking market is expanding as investment in genomics, precision medicine, biotechnology and pharmaceutical research grows. Valued at US$383.7 million in 2023, the market is projected to reach US$702.8 million by 2030. Growing demand for biological samples, genomic research, clinical trials and advanced sample-management technologies is creating opportunities across Vietnam’s life sciences ecosystem.

Vietnam's growing investment in biotechnology, genomics, precision medicine and pharmaceutical research is increasing the importance of biobanking as the country develops the infrastructure required for advanced biomedical research.

According to Insights10, the Vietnam Biobanks Market was valued at US$383.70 million in 2023 and is projected to reach US$702.77 million by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 9.03%. The research identifies precision medicine, genetic testing, increasing disease burden and national genome initiatives among the principal drivers of market development.

Biobanks are organised repositories that collect, process, store and manage biological samples together with associated clinical and research data. These samples can include blood, plasma, serum, tissue, DNA, RNA, cells and other biological materials.

Government strategies have supported research capabilities and infrastructure, including biobanks.

The study also highlights continuing challenges around infrastructure, sample management, expertise and capacity—suggesting considerable scope for future investment and international collaboration.

Precision medicine increases the value of biospecimens

Biobanking is becoming particularly important as healthcare moves towards precision medicine.

Rather than treating every patient with the same disease identically, precision medicine uses information about genetics, biomarkers, environment and lifestyle to understand why patients may develop different forms of disease or respond differently to treatment.

This requires access to large collections of well-characterised biological samples.

Cancer represents an important example. Tumour tissue, blood and circulating DNA can be stored and subsequently analysed using technologies including next-generation sequencing, proteomics, immunohistochemistry and liquid biopsy.

Increasing precision-medicine adoption, genomic research, clinical trials and investment in healthcare infrastructure are identified as key growth drivers.

The huge difference between these figures demonstrates why market definition matters particularly strongly in biobanking.

For Vietnam, the opportunity extends well beyond organisations operating biobanks themselves.
