Vietnam's healthcare sector is increasingly embracing personalised medicine, creating new opportunities for pharmaceutical compounding services that tailor medicines to the specific needs of individual patients.

Although no dedicated valuation has yet been published for Vietnam's compounding pharmacy market, industry analysis estimates the sector is currently worth US$35–50 million in 2025 and is projected to reach US$60–85 million by 2030.

Compounding pharmacies prepare customised medications when commercially available products do not meet a patient's clinical needs. This may involve modifying dosage strengths, changing formulations, combining active ingredients or producing medicines that have been discontinued or are temporarily unavailable.

The market includes a broad range of specialist services, including:

  • Sterile injectable compounding
  • Oncology preparations
  • Total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
  • Paediatric medicines
  • Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Dermatology formulations
  • Pain management compounds
  • Ophthalmic preparations
  • Veterinary medicines
  • Personalised dosage forms

Several structural trends are driving market growth across Vietnam:

  • Rising demand for personalised medicine.
  • Increasing prevalence of chronic diseases requiring customised therapies.
  • Expansion of specialist hospital pharmacy services.
  • Growing oncology treatment programmes.
  • An ageing population with more complex medication requirements.
  • Increased awareness of paediatric and geriatric dosing needs.
  • Greater investment in hospital pharmacy infrastructure and pharmaceutical quality systems.

Vietnam's broader pharmaceutical sector continues to expand rapidly. According to IMARC Group, the country's pharmaceuticals market reached US$7.98 billion in 2025 and is forecast to grow to US$14.65 billion by 2034. Growth is being driven by rising healthcare expenditure, an ageing population, increasing chronic disease prevalence and continued investment in pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare infrastructure.

The pharmacy sector is also undergoing significant transformation. IMARC Group estimates Vietnam's pharmacy retail market reached US$9.5 billion in 2025 and is expected to expand to US$17.2 billion by 2034. The growth of organised pharmacy chains, improved distribution networks and wider access to medicines is creating favourable conditions for the expansion of specialist pharmaceutical services, including compounding.

Manufacturing capability is strengthening across the pharmaceutical supply chain. Vietnam's active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) market reached US$1.05 billion in 2025 and is forecast to reach US$1.91 billion by 2034, supported by increasing domestic production, investment in research and development and wider use of generic medicines. A stronger domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing base also improves access to ingredients required for specialist compounding.

The future of compounding pharmacy is being shaped by advances in pharmaceutical technology. Automated compounding systems, robotic aseptic preparation, barcode verification, digital workflow management and gravimetric quality assurance are improving both efficiency and patient safety. Artificial intelligence is beginning to support formulation design, medication safety and inventory optimisation, while electronic prescribing systems are helping reduce medication errors and improve traceability.

Globally, demand for personalised medicines continues to increase as healthcare shifts away from one-size-fits-all treatment approaches. Precision medicine, orphan drugs, advanced oncology therapies and specialised paediatric medicines are all contributing to greater demand for high-quality compounding services.

Leading organisations in the compounding sector include FagronB. BraunFresenius KabiBaxter InternationalICU MedicalGrifolsARxIUMOmnicell and Equashield, alongside hospital pharmacy automation providers developing next-generation sterile preparation technologies.

As Vietnam continues to modernise its healthcare system and expand access to personalised treatments, pharmaceutical compounding is expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting patient-centred care. For suppliers of aseptic compounding equipment, cleanroom technologies, pharmacy automation systems, sterile consumables and pharmaceutical ingredients, Vietnam represents a promising emerging market within Southeast Asia.
